The Austin Township Board Meeting was called to order on April 13, 2010 at 7:35 p.m. by Supervisor Kenneth Vredenburg at the Township Hall at 14132 Pierce Road, Stanwood, MI 49346.

Present were Kenneth Vredenburg, Carolyn Towsley, Elizabeth G. Carr, and John Brockway. Absent was John Conforte.

Public Comment: None.

Moved by Kenn Vredenburg, supported by Carolyn Towsley to accept the minutes. Motion carried. April

The General, Fire Department, First Responder, and Cemetery reports were given. The Tax money will be invested later this month in a six month CD. $29??.?? Was rolled over from the Fire Department into their CD. Austin Township has paid its fees to the Fire Department and the Cemetery. Moved by Elizabeth G. Carr, supported by John Brockway to approve the report. Motion carried subject to audit.

Public Comment: Dan Robinson spoke on behalf of the Republican Party about the need for precinct delegates. There are 24 available slots in Austin Township.

Payment of the bills: The internet fees need to be taken out of 101-727 Office supplies. Mecosta Township would like a copy of all the Fire Department , First Responder, and Cemetery bills sent them since we share departments and so they have a better idea of what is being spent and where.

Fire Department and First Responder report was given. The last set of ISO papers sent were rejected because it was not on department stationary. The ISO pump test will be this Thursday, April 15, 2010. Carolyn Towsley will be unable to attend the First Responder truck committee meeting next week. We need someone to replace her. Moved by Elizabeth G. Carr, supported by Carolyn Towsley to send Kenn Vredenburg in Carolyn’s place. Motion carried.

Supervisor and Assessor Report: Millage rates will remain the same, 7.4293 mills. This is the county’s operating millage. The Board of Review is done. Only three people showed up. We will be getting new chips for the porch and the play area. The floors will be stripped and re-waxed this weekend.

Treasurer’s Report: Morton Library would like us to put a pledge notice and envelope in our tax letter. We are not allowed that many inserts. We will put a notice in our newsletter.

Clerk’s Report: MTA Spring Regional Meeting will be in Big Rapids on May 11, 2010. Moved by Kenn Vredenburg, supported by Carolyn Towsley to send all who want to go. Motion carried. Four board members will go. Moved by Kenn Vredenburg, supported by Carolyn Towsley to purchase a Microsoft Office program for the clerk’s computer. Motion carried. It has been suggested by the Bureau of Elections that clerks become notaries. The clerk will be check on the price to be certified. A statement of Kandy’s Accounting was presented to the board. It outlines in detail the assistance she is giving the clerk in setting up some of the clerk’s accounting procedures.

Roads: Moved by John Brockway, supported by Kenn Vredenburg to do two brinings, with notification from the County Road Commission whenever they do the brining so we are sure of the amount and date

of the application. We also want to know what their policy is for the boundary roads. Which township is charged for them? Road projects: Looking at Buchanan Road from 140th-150th overlay/wedging and seal coat. Also Polk Road burm and gravel.

Winter Burial: Carl Moore doesn’t get a 1099. We need to talk to Chris Daggett. There will be a Cemetery Meeting next week.

New Business:

1. Libraries: Moved by Kenn Vredenburg, supported by John Brockway to contribute $1000.00 to Walton Earickson Public Library and $500.00 to Morton Public Library. Motion carried.

2. Cemetery raking will be April 21, 2010. Alternate rain day will be April 22, 2010.
