The Austin Township Board Meeting was called to order on November 12, 2013 at 7:39 p.m. by Supervisor Kenneth Vredenburg at the Township Hall at 14132 Pierce Road, Stanwood, MI, 49346.

Present were Kenneth Vredenburg, Elizabeth G. Carr, Carolyn Towsley, John Brockway, and John Conforte. There was one guest present.

Minutes: Moved by Carolyn Towsley, supported by John Conforte to accept the minutes as corrected. #3 Treasurer’s Report should read: "84% of tax payers have paid 92% of tax money so far." Motion carried.

Finance Report: The Fire Department received a donation from MC Cares. This was surplus money that was distributed after the purchase and donation of the pet oxygen masks. The First Responders received their money from the County. There were several lot sales for the Cemetery. Accepted subject to audit.

Payment of the Bills: Moved by John Conforte, supported by John Brockway to approve for payment Township check #’s 8099-8116 and Cemetery check # 1493. Also to present for review Fire Department check #’s 4817-4828 and First Responder check #’s1390-1392. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:

1. Fire Department and First Responder: The next meeting will be November 20, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Mecosta Austin Fire Hall. The Fire Department was able to acquire another truck to be outfitted as a grass rig. The former truck will be put up for sale to offset costs. The next MFR class has started.

2. Assessor’s and Supervisor’s Report: The Cemetery Board discussed the need for a new sign for the Cemetery. They will take bids in the spring.

3. Treasurer’s Report: We collected 1 % more in taxes this month. The MCTA meeting in October was at Wheatland Township. Dan Latham an engineer consultant presented their program on assisting municipalities with promoting their assets to the public. Because of Michigan Township Annual Convention, the next MCTA meeting will be moved to February 3, 2014 at Aetna Township, potluck to start at 6:30 p.m. Sheriff Purcell expressed the department’s gratitude to the townships for their support of the installation of the canine unit. The Canine Unit will be visiting each township to express their gratitude. The Road Commission Annual Meeting will be in March 2014 at Morton Township. They will be sending out the township priority lists soon.

4. Clerk’s Report: The Morley Stanwood Sinking Fund was defeated at the election. The new computer is purchased and installed. Frontier is offering better pricing for our fax line. I will be contacting them about their offer.

New Business:

1. Xerox Machine: Moved by Carolyn Towsley, supported by Elizabeth G. Carr to update our Xerox machine to a newer model per offer by Xerox sales representative John Milan. The new contract would be $36.45 per month. Our current contract would switch to the new lease. Motion carried.

 

2. FYI: The Equalization Department is writing a grant to be able to install the GIS mapping system. The new system will assist with assessing and with zoning.

3. Road Commission: Austin Township wish list: removal of trees on 9 Mile, gravel on 9 Mile, eventually to black top 180th Ave.
