The Austin Township Board Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Kenneth
Vredenburg at the Township Hall at 14132 Pierce Road, Stanwood, Michigan, 49346
on February 10, 2015 at 7:30 p. m.
Present were: KennethVredenburg, Elizabeth G Carr, Carolyn Towsley, John
Brockway, and Sandra Mayo. There were two guest present.
Public Comment: Recycle of Morton Township has moved to a new location and is
always looking for more volunteers.
Minutes: Moved by Sandra Mayo, supported by Kenneth Vredenburg to approve the
minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Financial Report: The Taxes Receivables are showing up inaccurately on the
Balance Sheet. They have already been entered. Income received this month was
from interest and hall rental. The Fire Department has a difference of $15.00 in
the Independent Bank CD. This is an inaccurate entry from when we transferred
the accounts. The only income they received this month was from interest. The
First Responders have a difference of $8.56 from overpayment to the IRS. The
correction papers have been filed. The First Responders received their
November/December run money. The Cemetery balances.
Payment of the Bills: Moved by John Brockway, supported by Sandra Mayo, to
approve for payment Township check #’s 8403-8417 and Cemetery check #1523 and to
present for review Fire Department check #’s 5005-5008 and First Responder check
#’s 1486-1487. Motion carried.
Unfinished Business:
1.
Fire Department and First Responder Report: Ken Lind, our insurance agent, was
present at the Fire Board meeting. He brought the renewal papers. The renewal
went up by $37.00. He agreed to break down the insurance between the Fire
Department and the First Responders. All training has been done for the 2014
year. There is a valve leak on 3-12. 3-11 has a problem with their pump. The
First Responders had 194 calls last year. That is 20 more than last year. Marv
Bell will be retiring as Fire Chief at the end of his term at the end of March,
2015.
2.
Assessor and Supervisor’s Report: The Board of Review will be March 9-11th.
Everyone will be receiving new tax notices in the mail soon. The Cemetery mowing
job will be bid out this year.

Treasurer’s Report: 81% of tax payers have paid 96% of the Summer Taxes. 67% of
the tax payers have paid 79% of the winter taxes.
4.
Clerk’s Report: There will be a State Election to modify the tax code on May 5,
2015. We received a letter from Chloride Sales, Inc detailing their pricing to
brine our roads again this year.
5.
MTA Annual Meeting: Sandy reported that the classes were informative, but would
have appreciated more options during the Wednesday classes. There is an update
to the FOIA policy.
6.
MCTA Meeting: All officers from last year were re-elected. The minutes are
available online.
